About GoldPrice.Live

The site, the person behind it, and the Market Desk that writes the daily commentary and news.

About GoldPrice.Live

GoldPrice.Live is a live price site for gold and silver. It shows the spot price in every major currency and weight unit, with charts going back decades, calculators for bullion, scrap and purity, and a news desk that follows the metals markets around the clock.

The site exists because most gold price pages are either a bare number or a sales pitch. GoldPrice.Live tries to be neither. The prices come from live market feeds. The charts are built from the site's own price history. The commentary and news are compiled from named sources and linked back to them.

Our charts are powered by TradingView.

GoldPrice.Live is a sister site to GoldBuzz, the free precious metals newsletter, founded in August 2025. Both were built by Rick Adams, whose background is below. The site is published from Ontario, Canada, and written in British English, which tells you something about where its founder comes from.

If you spot an error, want to suggest a resource, or have a question about how something on the site is calculated, use the contact page.

Start with the gold price or silver price, see them by country, or use the scrap gold, purity and investment calculators.

Rick Adams

I'm Rick Adams, and I built GoldPrice.Live and GoldBuzz because I couldn't find a gold site I trusted.

I'm a Londoner by birth and an analyst by trade. I spent the early part of my career at Scotland Yard and then at British Aerospace, in both cases doing the same basic job: taking a lot of noisy information and working out what mattered. That habit has never left me, and it's the reason I approach gold the way I do. I'm less interested in what the price did today than in who moved it and why.

I've been buying, holding and studying precious metals for decades. In 2020 I started Theseus, an independent research project into fifty years of gold and silver price data, from 1970 to the present. It took four years, with strategic guidance from Nigel Hughes and Anton Svendrovski, and set out to identify the patterns and drivers behind how the metals actually trade rather than how people say they trade.

The full results were privately published in 2024 and much of what I write on this site comes out of that work.

In August 2025 I founded GoldBuzz, a free newsletter on gold and silver published three times a week. GoldPrice.Live followed as its sister site: the newsletter is where I say what I think, and this site is where the numbers live.

I write the resource articles here myself, and I set the editorial guidelines for the site's Market Desk, which produces the daily commentary and news summaries.

You can find me on LinkedIn, or through the contact page.

The Market Desk

The GoldPrice.Live Market Desk is our comprehensive commentary and news service. We produce gold and silver market commentary twice a day, the country-by-country commentary once a day, as well as the summaries on the news pages.

How it works: for each commentary, the desk takes the site's own live price data (spot, the day's move, the week's move and the year-to-date) and finds the day's best reporting from named sources such as Reuters, Bloomberg, the Financial Times, the World Gold Council and central bank releases. We then publish a summary of the key developments, with those sources linked.

The morning edition is written in the hour before the New York open, after the London morning and the early US data releases. The afternoon edition is published in the last hour or so of the New York session, after the Comex settlement. On Saturdays and Sundays we publish a wrap of the week.

News summaries work the same way. The desk checks incoming stories, scores them for relevance to investors in the UK, North America, Europe and Australia, and writes a short original summary of each story, including a link to the original.

The desk works to editorial guidelines set by Rick Adams: plain English, British spelling, name the source, never invent a figure, never give buy or sell advice. Rick reviews the output and revises the guidelines. If you find an error, please report it through the contact page.
